If you cant stay for the whole day be sure to come with a picnic for the Picnic in the Park on 19 Nov as part of the Taroona ART Trail.
Taroona Art Trail brings you yet another wonderful way to get involved during our celebration day on 19 Nov. Join with Mark Healy, Magic Pathman and labyrinth enthusiast Judy Keen as they mark out the pathways for a giant labyrinth. Bring along some flowers and intention or gather for the cermoney at 11.30am.
As we start the countdown until the ART trail celebration, it is evident that there has been a phenomenal effort from so many people. In particular the Mythical Sea Dragon has been taking shape in the underground carpark at Mary's Grange. Under the supervision of creator Helen Quilty, assisted by Men's Shed enthusiasts and residents of the Mary's Grange Nursing Home, over 1000 scales have been added. Once exhibited in the kids playground at Taroona Beach visitors will be invited to add a little piece of ocean and beach. On the weekend Rory Dick, acclaimed stencil artist mentored 9 local youth in a workshop that produced some very original printed t-shirts.
Using designs that the kids brought he instructed them in the art of strategically cutting out the lines to produce professionally finished stencils they then used with fabric paint and rollers to embellish their favourite t-shirt. Lunch was provided as was some hip tunes. They didn't want to go home, in the end we had to coax them out the door. As part of Kingborough Council’s School Holiday Program an exciting sculpture workshop with artist Ritchie Ares Doña was held at yspace. Young people participating in the workshop enjoyed a full day of learning and creating beautiful sculptures from old books. Ritchie arrived with boxes of old books, his band saw and plenty of experience to share with the kids who each made two individual pieces before starting on a group piece. It was all hands on deck to collage, laminate, fold and glue the many pieces that went in to make up the sculpture that can be seen on display at the Taroona Art Trail. As a part of our celebration, all aspiring weavers are invited to join this community weaving session to be held next to the Taroona Neighbourhood Garden on the 19th Nov 2016. Check out the material list below, as hopefully you will be able to contribute some materials. 10 -4 pm and it is FREE!!
